Most configuration procedures are straight forward and, in 9 out of 10 cases, you should be up and running within minutes. Problems, if they occur, usually relate to router/modem configuration settings rather than the Mytel service or the VoIP device. Some older router/modems may require firmware upgrades before to they will work with VoIP.

If your device is not listed here, click below for a general guide to configure your device to our system. Hardware or hard phones work independently of your P.C. That means that when your P.C. is switched off you can still make and receive calls. All hardware allows you to make a VoIP call. If you want to receive calls you'll either need to ask for a DID number (a second number that you'll need to tell your family and friends about) or purchase hardware that allows PSTN pass through traffic. + General configuration guide to Mytel |
Software
|
Software or softphones such as Skype are installed into your P.C. Softphones have several disadvantages including that your P.C. must be on for you to make a call and you need to be nearby your P.C. to receive a call. Softphones also require a headset and microphone which might not feel all that comfortable for normal use. On the positive side the start up cost is only the cost of the microphone/headset as software is available for free. |

Hybrid

Hybrid phones combine a softphone with a hardware device. Basically they are softphones that use external handsets. Again they require that your computer is switched on but they do allow you some greater mobility.
