Frequently Asked Questions

Mytel VoIP Setup Assistant

What is the Mytel VoIP Setup Assistant?

The Mytel VoIP Setup Assistant automatically configures your VoIP hardware to work with the Mytel network. This means you don't have to configure your phone manually so you're ready to make calls quicker and easier.

When I use the Mytel VoIP Setup Assistant, I see warnings about insecure items and unencrypted connections. Is this a problem?

No. In order for the Setup Assistant to work, it has to send configuration information to the phone in an unencrypted format. This is not a fault, and is not a problem, because no sensitive data will be sent over this connection. Just press ‘Yes' or ‘Continue'.

Why do I have to specify a hardware type?

Different VoIP phones and devices require different configurations. The Mytel VoIP Setup Assistant needs to know what type of hardware you are using to that it knows exactly which configuration to use. Selecting the wrong type of hardware will mean the Setup Assistant can't talk to your device and configuration will fail.

What if my VoIP phone or device is not listed?

The Mytel VoIP Setup Assistant can only configure the types of phones and devices shown. If your VoIP hardware is not one of the units shown, just choose “Other VoIP Products” and the Setup Assistant will provide instructions that will guide you to setting up your phone.

What is an IP address and why do I need one?

An IP address is a unique number to identify each computer, printer and other device on your network. Every device connected to your network has one, including your VoIP phone or ATA. The Mytel VoIP Setup Assistant needs to know the IP address of your VoIP hardware so that it can communicate with it directly.

How do I find out the IP address of my VoIP product?

If your VoIP product is one of the types listed in the Setup Assistant, click What is my VoIP IP? Otherwise, the quick start manual that came with your phone should tell how to find out the IP address of your VoIP product.

When I run the Setup Assistant, I am asked for a password. What should I type?

Some VoIP products have an administration password set on them, and you will need to enter this before the Setup Assistant can configure your hardware. Check the manual that came with you phone to see if there is a password set by default, and to work out what that password is.

I have run the Setup Assistant, but my phone doesn't work. What should I do?

When running the Mytel VoIP Setup Assistant, it is important to choose the correct hardware type and that you take care to enter the IP address correctly, otherwise the Setup Assistant will fail. Once you have checked these settings and tried again, if the phone still doesn't work, please give Mytel a call on 1300 36 00 89 to speak to a technical service representative.
