Differences between VoIP and a traditional telephone service
Could I substitute Mytel's VoIP service for a traditional telephone service and can the traditional service be cancelled?
Whilst we don't promote this approach we are aware of customers with cable broadband who have disconnected completely from their traditional telephone service. The issues that we would ask you to consider when deciding whether to disconnect your traditional service include:
- How will your broadband be delivered? If you have a DSL service you currently need a standard telephone connection. In the future you may be able to order a DSL service without also ordering a telephone line service.
- How will you and those who also enter your premises access 000 emergency services? You should consider your own safety and those who may visit your premises above all else. You should not rely solely on your VoIP service as power failures or broadband outage may disrupt your service. A mobile phone may be a suitable secondary means of contacting emergency services.
